Lube Fundraiser
19th July 2008

In late 2007, we were approached by a charity requesting our assistance in raising funds through the club-scene. Of course, the club receives such requests on a regular basis, so the LUVELY crew have to consider very carefully, which causes to support- especially as available weekend venue slots are in such short supply.

This particular call came from the WORLD HIV/AIDS CHARITY, whose aims really struck a chord with us. Luvely has always enjoyed the support of its famously hedonistic following, a following that has helped to shape the clubs reputation. Working with this charity was seen by the crew as an ideal yet subtle opportunity to remind clubbers that although the 'anything goes' ethos of Luvely is still very much alive- it still remains as important as ever to play safe.

As any club promoter will tell you, coming up with a suitable name for a night is always a bit of nightmare! -luckily the crew chanced upon the dusty old props from Davie's original club LUBE in a dark corner of our storeroom, and it seemed an obvious, and yet very fitting title for the event- as well as providing the clubs decor at zero expense! As an added bonus, the night would also provide the perfect vehicle to test Luvely's new laser system and would help to add an extra sparkle!

With the decision made to go ahead with the gig, a Saturday night was secured, the 19th July 2007, at Luvely's home- the LIQUID ROOM. Although this night was intended to be a Luvely production, the crew wanted to involve as many other of the capitals leading clubs as possible and create the biggest gala of Edinburgh based DJ's the city had seen since the DROP THE ANCHOR events. With representation from leading nights, both past & present such as JOY, MUSIKA, NUKLEAR PUPPY, SATISFIED, BEAT BOUTIQUE ABSOLOUTE and TOUCH, the event was set to be a sure-fire success- great news for the charity as all the proceeds would be donated to them in support of their important work across the globe in educating people about the disease & assisting those affected by it directly.

The night itself was an absolute blinder, with a difficult mid-month July date for any Edinburgh venue transformed into a very busy & successful night. The Luvely crew would very much like to thank everyone involved in making the night such a success- The LIQUID ROOM for their generosity, LFT PROMOTIONS for distributing the flyers at cost, AFFLIKTED PROMOTIONS for their discounted rigging services, the DJ's for providing their extensive talents free of charge, and of course all of you who came along to show your support of this worthwhile cause, thanks guys- it was very much appreciated!

There has been a huge demand for another Lube event ever since, testament to the club's popularity even after only one event! Will there be another Lube in the future? ...just watch this space to find out!
