FantasyLands 2007
12th December 2007
5 arenas, 60 artists, 12 thousand people, 12 hours, …if this didn't promise to be one of the most outstanding events of the year for the Capitals clubbing calendar, then it was certainly going to be the biggest, and boy, did it deliver!
Billed by the press as featuring some of the UK's finest clubs, the first FANTASYLANDS event held at the ROYAL HIGHLAND SHOWGROUND CENTRE at Ingleston near Edinburgh on the 24th of November was a massive success, reaching its impressive twelve thousand capacity in well under two hours. The only hiccup was a delay in opening due to a large traffic accident on the nearby M8 motorway, which took some of the ambulances on standby for the event away from the site. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured and the event was underway only half an hour late.
The LUVELY arena featured a winter wonderland theme to reflect the overall flavour of the festival, and with our snow machines running full tilt for most of the night, they really helped add that little something special. The crew certainly pulled out all the stops, not just with the decor but with a extra lighting gantries loaded with the latest lighting & effects equipment to create an impressive sound stage to ensure the arena stood out streets ahead from the rest.
All the Luvely DJ's were in attendance too, and were joined behind the decks by ex- resident JARED, who stepped out of his two year retirement especially for this event, he'd clearly been keeping talents well maintained and reminded the crowds why he'd once been regarded as one of the country's most influential Spinners. The boys delivered spectacular sets as always, and with almost twelve hours to play with, dropped in many of the all time great classics to help lift the roof off place- awesome!
The FANTAZIA arena was filled with the glow-stick & furry boot brigade all night, with other arena's enjoying great support too- especially NUCLEAR PUPPY, who had their crowd jumping all the way to the bitter end. HED KANDI occupied the VIP arena, and although their numbers were comparably lower due to so many VIP ticket holders disappearing to their exclusive balconies, were nevertheless creating a vibrant atmosphere.
The only real disappointment of the night must surely have been for the GATECRASHER crew, whose arena never quite seemed to get off the ground- even despite housing the main bar. Unfortunately, their riggers could not get access to the clubs decor for some reason, which left their arena looking somewhat bare. To make matters even worse, their arena had been full of cattle up until the previous night, and was left with a terrible odour, hardly ideal! Despite the problems, Gatecrasher made the best of it, playing some of the toughest sets of the night to a hardcore crowd who really didn't seem to mind the arenas problems..
Luvely enjoyed overwhelming support right through to end- packed all night with a one in one out policy having to be applied early in the evening. Special thanks go out to all the Luvely faithful for coming along to support us & help create such a fabulous atmosphere!
