With the immanent reopening of the Liquid-Room now just days away, and our brief absence from the club scene now coming to an end, we thought we’d fill you in on a radical new addition to Luvely’s collection of special FX gear, which will, quite literally- blow you away!
Our break has been the perfect opportunity for the crew to develop a number of new improvements to the club, and we’ve had more than enough time to look at every aspect- including production values. With this in mind, we took the time to investigate what’s new within the stage equipment market, and decided to look more closely at the cutting edge world of Co2 gas effects, especially as it would help to add that extra wow factor at our combined re-launch & birthday bash (incidentally, Co2 gas is the same stuff you find in fizzy drinks, and in fire extinguishers- hence our original intention for this to be the party piece for our now delayed fire brigade theme).
Although Co2 cannons are for the most part, large, cumbersome, and prohibitively expensive, we eventually stumbled across a lighter, more mobile unit called a lance. This differs from most Co2 cannons as it operated in hand held form, a bit like a flamethrower, by an operator on the stage. The lance is capable of blasting a high pressure jet of freezing cold Co2 gas straight out over (or even into) the crowd, over a distance of up to a whopping 40 feet!
The visual effect is quite simply AMAZING! -a bit like a smoke machine on steroids, but the big difference is that the dense vapour that it generates, vanishes almost instantly when the operator shuts down the lance- incredibly striking! Another feature of the Co2 is that it has an astonishing cooling effect, making it perfect for refreshing the air and the crowd during those hot, sticky club sessions- especially helpful during the summer months!
The lance will make its very first appearance at our ‘Military Tattoo’, making this night the very first Co2 party in the capital- ever, and the equipment will also be permanent feature of our party’s from now on. What’s more is that Luvely will be the only night in Edinburgh that you’ll get to experience Co2 effects, and will be the only club in Scotland employing it at the moment too, so get yourself along- and have a blast!
